Hi all i hope someone can help,
Basically my wife's car is in my name and hers is on mine (long story). When we do the insurance we basically do insurance for each others cars.
So while her car has me named on the insurance and her car came up for renewal last month so i changed companies and by mistake i put me as the main policy holder instead of her.
I need to ring them to change this, but will this mean as basically for the last year she has not had an insurance policy (even though both cars were fully covered) would she lose her no claims bonus? she seems to think she would, so i wanted check what options we have.
Thanks for any help.

If she has not been the policyholder then she won't get any Ncd.
But she will still have her Ncd she had at the start of the policy but didn't use.
(You look to have got away with this as you actually had nil Ncd to use on this policy as yours was in use on your other policy)0 -

You may need to explain the long story.
e.g. many insurers ask if the policy holder is owner and/or registered keeper of the vehicle.
Also the main user of the vehicle needs to be disclosed.
When you insured the second car (in place of your wife) what NCB did you declare?
So many questions, I think we need all the details.
But with regards your wife, NCB is normally preserved for up to 2 years.0 -
Thanks both, yes before i mixed up the policy owner she had 12 years no claims and i had 20.
The registered keeper information was correct it was just the policy holders name.
To make matters more complicated
we are changing the car in my registered in my wifes on saturday.
Do you think it would be worth registering this can in my name as i will be the main driver and we can change owners on the log book on the other car, then it is all put right. we not are not bothered about having another owner on the log book as we plan to keep the car for at least another 5 years at which point it will not make much difference in price.0 -
Insurers aren't bothered if you insure a car registered in your spouses' name. (What's yours is hers !!)
But you need to sort out this situation where you look to have used your NCD to insure a second car.
One way round this would be to cancel the one that covers the car that is being replaced and your wife take out a brand new policy to cover this.
You will be faced with cancellation costs, but it's possible that should you come clean over the mistake, the insurer will propose the same solution (the wrong policy must be cancelled) plus wants paying the proper premium for the car that really had nil NCD when you started the policy.0 -
I wouldn't change the registered keeper from husband to wife just because of the hassle involved when the DVLA cancel your tax because the vehicle has changed keeper.0
