New speed camera type?

Locally (Amersham, Station Road) there is a replacement speed camera. Both new sets of speed bars on the road are on the uphill side of the camera. Does this mean that the camera is both backwards and forwards facing? Never seen this before.

Could well be but without a picture it's hard to tell for sure.

I'll try to get a picture. It seems to have a slit across the bottom.

I've seen similar situations before where the camera is facing one way but there are white lines in the road in front of and behind the camera. I suspect the camera will only take photos in one direction but the other lines act as a deterrent and people slow down seeing the lines and a bright yellow speed camera. I may be wrong.....

  • We have cameras in Sheffield mounted on central reserves that can be swivelled round to face both ways.

They only photograph in one direction though, so could be something similar.

    Dont think OP means that??
Sounds like they mean there are lines on both sides of the road on the SAME side of the camera so it only faces one direction but can see traffic coming towards and going away from it??
Normally this is for rear facing only to stop people driving onto the other side of the road to try and avoid the lines... But some do work like this..
You'd have to google the camera type to see what images its certified to take???

Thank you, Misterbarlow. I tried to explain it but you, at least, have twigged what I mean. Exactly, both sets of lines are on the same side of the camera. The old camera did swivel and there were lines on either side of the camera but the new one is different.

    ac·a·dem·ic
    adjective
    1. of or relating to education and scholarship.

    2. not of practical relevance; of only theoretical interest
    .

The OP wants to improve their knowledge of the type of camera in question so you are correct, it is academic.

Some cameras can work 2 directions at once.
Some cameras work 1 direction but can be swivelled around to work the other
Some cameras only work 1 direction and can not be swivelled but there are markings on both sides of the road to catch overtakers speeding
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
