Speeding Ticket, Speed Awareness Course and Insurance

Hi,

I have a question regarding getting a speeding ticket, taking the speed awareness course and how this is declared to the insurance company. I have already read 'Car insurance and speed awareness course' thread in this forum which covers some of my question but doesn't fully answer it.

If I have got a speeding ticket and taken the speed awareness course to avoid the points, how should I answer the 'Have you had any convictions in the last 5 years?' on my next insurance application. My assumption would be that I have a speeding conviction, but as I don't have any points is there any evidence of the speeding offence?

Thanks

If they ask you declare it if not you dont.

Is the wording non motoring convictions?

The following question taken from the Direct Line Application form is the type of question

'Have you had any motoring offences including convictions, endorsements, fixed penalties, bans or points in the last 5 years?'

I'd click no. Even if they do want to know about the course they have no way of finding out

You don't have any convictions so you answer no,, but this was answered on the speed awareness course, the offence is in effect stricken from the record

The answer to that is a definitive No. There are a few companies, Admiral I think for one, who also, now ask if you've been on a speed awareness course.

Admiral do ask the question about courses, and since I've done a course that's why I'm not with Admiral any more.

Aviva, who currently insure me, don't ask about courses.

    You don't.

The course is an alternative to prosecution.

Taking the points and paying the fine would be a conviction, because you're pleading guilty to the offence by accepting the fixed penalty.

Only the Admiral group of companies ask if you have gone on a speed awareness course. For all other insurance companies the answer to that question would be no. You have avoided the speeding conviction by going on the course.

Of course no insurance company can find out if you have gone on a speed awareness course without you telling them. There is no place for them to look for that data.
