What is marasatan app on facebook?

One of my facebook friends account has been hacked and from that account I was sent a link which is stupidly clicked on. It's an app on facebook called marasatan.
Is my PC in trouble because I clicked on it?

Download and run the FREE version of MalwareBytes - https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ Just clicking links can lead to something nasty happening but it isn't especially common sfaik.
  • Thanks! I've downloaded Malware Bytes and am running a scan now along with Avira virus scan.
After Malware Bytes installed, a message popped up saying my trial had expired but Malware Bytes is running as I type

What do the hackers hope to achieve by sending out links? My FB account has nothing. I use my real 1st name and fake surname and hardly use it. Mostly used for watching and liking funnies :rotfl:
  • Avira and Malware Bytes have found nothing. I guess I'm okay?

I suspect they want to run some malicious code to get your contact list, or to take over your account and use it to spam other users, or to install malware on your PC.
  • Sorry to be a pain, but can you tell me if my PC is okay? I've run Avira and Malware Bytes and they have come back with nothing found.
Is it safe to continue? I have a submission which has to be in tomorrow and do not wish to enter personal details if my PC is unsafe. FB looks fine but am willing to close the account if that's safer. As I've said, I don't use it for anything personal. Privacy and all that jazz.

I'd say it's safe but changing the password would do no harm.
  • Thank you so much  Have changed password to FB account and the email addy password attached to it.
