Aviva Car Renewal Rip Off

Hi,

Just wondered if others had found the same thing that we have.

Our renewal price from Aviva was up by 30% from last year, and about that same amount higher than typical figures from other insurers. Aviva declined to offer anything more than a token discount off their renewal offer, making at best still more than 25% above last year and above the market rate.

OK that's their business decision. However here's the nasty bit. If I do an online quote with them using our exact car make model year etc and all our correct other details, they offer a competitive price. If I amend the quote to supply our actual registration number, the price jumps up to the rip off figure.

Anyone else found the same?

Cheers,

Tony S

You have probably lost your year early discount and their software is able to detect new and existing policyholders. So, one is with early year discount and the other is not.

Early year discounting is common in many areas of retail/services. Its not a rip off. Just a commercial reality that encourages people to shop around each time.

  • Possibly. Possibly not since our cars have been insured with Aviva for quite a few years. This is the first time I've seen this issue, last year's renewal for the same vehicles was competitive.
