Hi All ,

I switched via the February collective switch to BG everything was fine and been really pleased with the service and support from BG unlike Scottish power who I left who''s billing was a nightmare.

Wondering whether to Switch to Sainsburys Energy as outlined in Martin recent news letter basically BG re branded my comparison check shows a saving of £43 / annual and of course a cash back of £30 so total of £73.

The main reason I thinking of doing this is that perhaps prices will increase due to UK economy and EU situation and this will extend the fixed date to June 2017 extending the high usage period from February.

Any thoughts

I'm not sure what you are asking exactly? Whether or not you should try to save yourself £73???

If you can save £73 switching to Sainsburys, are you sure you can't save even more switching to another supplier (or suppliers ;))?

If you join the CEC, they will even advise you when you are no longer on the best deal i.e. they will alert you when you can start saving.
Other comparison sites also exist that offer a similar service.

Unfortunately, I don't believe any of these alert services consider seperate suppliers at present in their alert service. Perhaps the Cheap Energy Club could consider this as a future development?
I don't really think it would be too difficult to programme if they were to put their mind to it.

CEC will pay you £30 cashback if you switch to Sainsburys. They don t pay this on the few suppliers who offer either gas or electric cheaper , so I think its a good deal. In my area the electricity is down to only 7.89 p/kwh..26 p a day SC..looks good to me with the current brexit fears of rising prices. £100 quid is worth switching tariffs.
Seeing as how you are staying within the BG stable , the exit fees of £60 should not apply. They did nt when I moved from Sainsburys to BG this year

Not sure how you can say which suppliers may be cheaper than Sainsburys as it will differ by region, usage, etc.

Also, I'm pretty sure it was MSE Martin himself that said don't base your decisions on possible cashback, as it's only guaranteed when you actually get it in your bank account.

If the CEC doesn't offer cashback for a certain supplier, check out other possible sites as recommended by MSE as some suppliers only offer cashback to certain comparison sites and not others (although a few like Ebico don't pay any comparison sites cashback)
Don't forget to check the cashback sites too.

Well decided to go for it,

Liked the fact that it was a slight bit cheaper, but the overriding factor is that it gives a bit of longer period of stability to the fixed price period.

Going from an end date of Feb 2017 with BG to June 2017 with Sainsbury's (actually still BG).

surprised more people have not picked upon this given the number who switched in Feb 2016.

The £30 cashback is detailed in the CEG switch so see no reason why it should not be paid but obvoiusly should never bank on cashback alone as a decision maker.

    Thanks for replies

They are going for the Sainsburys June 2017 in a big way. Its the most popular tariff at the moment with the CEC and UKpower.co.uk. I think you have made a good choice and if better deals come up with either Sainsburys or British Gas within the 2 years you can switch exit free.If you claim the Warm Home Discount worth £140 , then BG /Sainsburys will pay that unlike these smaller suppliers like GB Energy, although I see the Co op will pay the WHD. There is also the £15 dual fuel discount and Nectar points to consider from Sainsburys Energy.

I was looking at this switch too. I'm on the BG Collective Feb 2017 and wouldn't mind extending the fixed price period. It's a bit closer in my case -- saving of only £26 a year, but assuming the £60 exit fee won't be applied I should switch. Not expecting any cashback for the same reason.
I notice it's higher standing charges so probably not good for lower energy users (family of 6 here so quids in ;) ). Think I'm going to switch too, if only for the longer fixed period.
    Cheers, bzd

    Good Post BZD,

Yes obviously need to do sums as smaller users may not benefit due to higher standing charge.

I think the £30 cashback should be paid as its not like we are relying on Quidco or Topcashback to track it is paid by the provider detailed in the switch as paid after 3 months and even mentioned in Martins email.

However not worth switching on the strength of that alone, but clearly the extended fixed period is worthwhile particularly as it benefits from no exit fees.

  • Hello,

Have read some where here that after switch to collective switch feb17, some one was on wrong tariff.
Guess, Just checked and seems that despite signing up and having contract from BG saying on collective switch have been on standard tariff for both gas/electric! Not sure when change took place as had a smart metetrs installed in may and that showed collective fix on the smart meter!
Chasing up with BG, not happy at this. The smart display is showing a tariff of GD-DSFEI02NO elect, ED-DIFEIX2NO.
Maybe others should check too if your tariff has been increased.
  • My smart meter monitor was registering the wrong tariff and I too am on the Feb 2017 collective tariff.I dont care what it was saying I was on but my online account had got it right and I was being billed at the right rate.Maybe its because this is a collective tariff , I dont know, but its no real concern to me what the smart meter "toy " is saying
  • Hi,

In my case though the on line account is also showing standard rate tariif not the collective switch!
have been asked second time to send them an email they already sent.... sigh, that says I am colelctive switch.
mayeb time to do a formal complaint?
