If you were a large employer would you rather risk having your visa quota slashed next year, or move to a country that doesn't have one?
that is a risk
I have no idea how many 'essential' people we need to import , I suspect very few.0 -

ONS numbers
do you think the exiters will be happy if we still let 300k non EU migrants in each year?
'Not hard' is a bit dubious. I've spent half my adult life in the US and I know a lot of Americans who live here. Sure if you've got a job offer at a decent salary it can be done, but it's still an expensive and time-consuming process.0 -

I agree, I suppose I meant not hard in relation to a hard cap, if we have XX,XXX visas to give out, its going to be a hard job allocating them to bankers over doctors and nurses (26% of NHS Doctors are immigrants).
Currently 100,000 Americans could move over, if they had the jobs and fees, under a capped migration system, not so easy.0 -
Agreed. The whole situation just amuses me. On the one hand you've got the Brexiters saying "the Germans will never cut off their largest export market" or whatever, meanwhile they propose to cut off one of Britain's largest export markets.0

It's easy if you are youngish and work for an American company who wants you to locate there. For everyone else, it's impossible unless you are rich enough to be able to invest £500,000 in a US government designated business. (They still have a lottery as well but Brits don't qualify)0 -

Did you misread the direction of movement?0 -

Oh sorry...did I miss read the post? I thought posters were discussing moving to the US?
Apologies.0 -

Yep you misread, but no problem. We were talking about Americans getting visas to live in the UK. It's roughly as difficult as the other direction, except that the UK is more tolerant of students staying and finding a job here.0 -
I'm not angry and I don't care if I alienate anyone. I have my views and I am happy to discuss them and change them if someone persuades me that I am wrong (this happens regularly).
I think that people that voted Leave made a terrible mistake. I want to understand whether I am wrong and to do that I want to know what the plan is for what follows.
So what happens next? Make me understand why I am wrong and I'll agree with you that Leave was the right vote.
However the more people that can't articulate what happens after a Leave vote insult me the more I think they are idiots. I can't help that really, the ball is in your court frankly.
Not sure what you have done wrong but as ever you make valid points. I too cannot understand why Leave won or why they have no idea what the plan is that they wish to enact.
This is a momentous decision for the UK and the very least the 48% deserve is that the leaders who persuaded 52% to support them can offer some vision for what happens next.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

I'm surprise you don't understand about democracy and powerful elites and indifference to ordinary people's concerns. That you don't understand why labour would never give the people a vote nor LibDems and why these people fully intend to refuse to implement the people's decision using any method they can.
Why do you support this shocking behaviour?
However there will be a plan in 6 weeks although sometimes deadlines are missed.0
