We have received confirmation that we are due a refund of 500 euro's (we had this all agreed before the referendum but its still not been paid to us) is due from Ryanair due to an 11 hr plus plane delay at the beginning of the Month.
Is there a way to open a euro account that this can be paid into so as we don't lose out as a result of the recent drop in the euro against the £? we are on holiday at the end of the year. I went online and it said that there were various German bank accounts that can be opened but when I filled in the paperwork, it said at the end that it couldn't complete the transaction.

we have a asda euro currency card and wondered if there was a way to load this money onto there? Just a thought!

In all honesty there isn't a chance in hell of opening a german account quickly in order to pay in the 500€, have you thought about a UK based Euro account? I know that Citi do them, I think Barclays as well.

If they are paying you in Euros you would actually make a gain as you would receive more sterling than what you paid, however the quickest is try your local bank for a currency account

How do Ryanair intend to pay you? It's likely to be in GBP equivalent anyway if you are a UK customer...

€500 would have been worth about £382 a week ago it is now worth about £410 so you stand to gain about £28!

To open a foreign bank account including one in an EU country you need to go into a bank branch in the country concerned and it helps to also have a postal address in the country concerned but in the case of France for example an address in an EU country can be accepted.

I was given a French account instantly over the counter but the documents and card were sent to me by post to my French address.

You need photo ID and proof of address.

So far is just a theory, not many people have confirmed they could get a truly Euro Bank accounts form EU countries, while you are still living in the UK.

There is a previous thread regarding this which is complete waste of time as all of that is just theory and few people have confirmed it is not working.

Did you try ComDirect as if you call them, they should be able to walk you through and get your account open. They do speak English.

No, not yet. They check ID via a video call from what I read so far. I am not sure if you still need an invite or not. Also I don't know if you require a german address to receive the card.

I have a french bank account which will cost soon so I am looking for something for myself.
