New build house: Wrong carpets fitted over 1 yr ago

Hi all,
We bought our house Dec 2014 from David Wilson Homes, and recently had our carpets cleaned and also visited a friends new build property.
We noticed our carpets seemed a poorer quality than that of our friends even though the house builder and carpet fitter were the same.
I asked David Wilson Homes what was fitted in my house and it turns out they have fitted the 30oz, rather than the 50oz through out.
I have sent a email with pictures of the contract we signed and what should of been fitted, I was wondering if anyone knew what my rights are?
The difference in cost is over £1000, but really I want the correct carpets!
Thanks in advance!

If they were to refit the carpets you could reasonbly be expected to make a contribution as you have had the use of the carpet for a year, so if they now fit a different, new carpet you are left in a better position than if they'd done it to start with.
HAve you hasd a response you your e-mail yet?
I hink that you will be entitled to the difference in price.
You can ask for them to put you back in the piostion you would have been in had they carried out the contract correctly - strictly speaking that would leave you with 1 year-old 50oz carpet but in paractice might mean paying a contribnution.
This does depend a bt on what view the builders, and indeed a court, would take of the importnace of the caarpet weight - you need to look at the complete contractr including anyhting it says about reasonable alternatives etc.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
It's taken you 18 months to notice though. I'd rather have any price difference they'd offer than have to shift ALL of my furniture round0

Hi all,
Thanks for the replys...
It does state in the contract that we would have 50oz fitted.
Unfortunately the new build has had many problems and I always kept pushing it to the back of my mind. It was not until I went into another new build with 50oz that I truely appreciated the difference.
Would I potentially have to look at the depreciation of carpet?
Cheers0
