If they initiate the call tell them you'll call talk talk back, if its legit they'll allow it, if not then its wrong

I have only had one call purporting to be TalkTalk - it seems the double-call system connects to many different sales/scam sellers, all probably the same outfit.

It is easy to spot the scammer who claims they are from TT - the CLI number comes up as LOCAL CALL or PRIVATE CALLER, whereas I have received genuine calls from TT and they have always shown a return number. Also, he impolitely put the phone down on me when I challenged him, something I doubt that TT would actually do.

My only concern was he quoted me my TT account number but he might have made that up, as who knows their own TT account number off the top of their head and I did not write it down to check afterwards.

If they hung up on you when challenged this doesn't sound like a genuine call to me. You did the right thing in challenging the caller.

there is only one company that knows the following 3 things


my full name
my phone number
my talk talk account number


if the calls are not genuine , then they are coming from another company that knows all my details.


I have not authorised talk talk to pass this info on

Are you sure that the account number they quoted you WAS your true account number?

Few people are able to remember off the cuff what their TT account number is so, if someone rang you and said, to legitimise the call, that your account number was 857345 - would you be able to remember what they said and look it up to confirm it while the call was still in progress or afterwards?

I think they could give you any correct-length series of digits and it would sound convincing.
