Do I have to have it repaired?

I bought a £200 combination microwave from John Lewis 2 months ago. Yesterday it threw a wobbly and blew the power circuit trip in my consumer board. The microwave no longer works although the fuse in the plug is ok. On reading reviews, I now find this a common fault with this model and one reviewer said he was without his microwave for one month because John Lewis insisted on a repair. Can they insist on repairing it or can I get a refund; my preferred option?
I collected it from my nearest shop and it is in the boot of my car ready to return it, but are they obliged to accept it?

You can ask for a refund do but they may not be oBlige to do so.
Your covered by the consumer rights act.0 -
You don't have to get it repaired, but if that is the resolution that JL choose and you decide not to accept it then your microwave becomes a rather expensive paperweight.0

I want to replace it with a different make. The model that was repaired in the review I read, still broke down again when it was returned to its owner.0

They can choose to repair it once under the CRA.
If it breaks again, then you can ask for a replacement or a refund.
You cannot legally demand a refund (which is what you are asking) at the moment.0 -

That.'s not relevant to what JL have to do .
However it may be worth pointing out to them that its not just you with the problem .0 -
Thanks for the advice marliepanda. I went into John Lewis expecting them to offer a repair. On arrival in the relevant department I saw a microwave just like mine with the words "blown house electrics" written on it. I told the sales assistant mine had done the same. Got a full refund, no problem. Its a fault they are fully aware of.0
