Had a quote from a guy who seems to have a lot a good reviews.
One bathroom showroom place quoted on phone that prices start from 5K. One quote was £2000 and I supply the materials. Thats as much detail i got (Granted, i mainly wanted him for wardrobes). Im in the north west.
Todays quote:
Cloakroom:
Remove existing suite.
If floor need attention before tiling - extra cost.
New white panel radiator.
First fix all pipework and wastes to accomadate new suite.
Back to wall toilet with concealed cistern with soft close seat.
550mm Vanity unit with mono tap.
Tile floor (approx) 3sqm. - Tiles at cost to myself
Materials = £490
Labour - £500
I can add wall tiles or extra work if needed.
Ensuite:
Removal of bathroom suite inc all wall and floor tiles.
If walls or floor need attention before tiling - extra cost.
First fix all pipework and wastes to accomodate new suite.
900mm slimline showtray, bar valve shower with drench head and slider.
1200 x 500 chrome towel radiator.
Back to wall toilet with soft close seat.
New extractor fan.
Baton ceiling and install gloss white pvv ceiling with 3 led shower spotlights.
Cover floor with 12mm cement board.
Prep walls for tiling.
Tile walls in the shower area only.
All rubbish removed by skip.
Materials = £1330
Labour = £1000
A few queries i have regarding this but all in all does this sound ok.
Need to clarify floor tiling for ensuite, and also Vanity unit has not been mentioned. Also prep to walls behind shower is included.
Thanks

Did today's plumber actually see what is involved, or did they quote over the phone as well? I'd be very wary of phone quotes ....0
-
No, he visited yesterday and measured up, advised on a few things.
Seemed genuine and decent enough. Im wary at quotes myself. Rather pay more and have the job done properly.0 -
I am not reassured by how cheap they are in both materials and labour.
What are these back to wall toilets going into? Existing studwork boxing?
Having a bathroom fitted by someone that makes wardrobes is also a bit worrying.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Im not having someone who fits wardrobes, doing my bathroom. That was a past quote and that is it.
The quote in question, the fitter has said he gets all his supplies from http://ctb.co.uk/ and we can go into the showroom to look at items, upgrade anything, pick tiles etc. Also gave us a catalogue to go through.
The back to wall toilet will be housed in its own unit with concealed cistern as seen on the website.0 -
Looks cheap. We paid about £7k for something similar (in the north) but a bit bigger and required a bit of extra plumbing work.Thinking critically since 1996....0

I know the wardrobe guy was different but I'm concerned about the general quality if that was the start point.
Having looked at the CTB site and googled some of the brassware names, no one else sells this stuff with the same names that looks the same. My gut tells me that they are probably importing cheap Chinese stuff and selling it under their own name. There is very little detail of the specification or of guarantees on taps - and those are the first things to go.
There are branded goods available at all price levels and that is what most plumbing merchants or bathroom specialists will sell, not unbranded goods. I would personally want to see commonly available items with decent guarantees going in.
It's just way too cheap, especially when the VAT on goods has to be included in that price if he isn't VAT registered and that a skip alone easily costs over £200. An electrician has to be paid as well to carry out alterations.
Presumably this guy is also trying to make some sort of money.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Doozergirl thanks for your feedback.
Just to point out his does not include any tiling apart from the shower area or the floor as i left that out of the quote. Any tiles purchased at at our own cost.
We are in the Liverpool area. A 3 tonne skip is around £100 around here.
The clifton website says it offers a lifetime guarentee on pottery, baths etc 25 years and 10 years for brassware ie taps.
Will think about this a bit more. Thanks0 -
Ok ive done a bit of digging and ive read that they use Pemier/ Hudson reed branded good and put their name to the products.
the square bar valve with rigid riser and handset in clifton is the same as https://www.premierbathroomcollection.co.uk/products/showers/complete-showers/JTY386
Stainless steel double door cabinet with light is the same ashttps://www.premierbathroomcollection.co.uk/products/mirrors-and-cabinets/cabinets/LQ334
Just a quick comparison but not sure what Premier/Hudson reed are like0 -
We use Clifton, the stuff is fine. They will change anything if damaged, if you drop the toilet they will change it. Not only that but a rep brings you out a replacement to place of work. Really happy with everything we have bought from Clifton. I wonder if I can post pics yet?Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0
