Ending tenancy early to move to a different property with the same landlord

Hi, I am currently in a 6 month tenancy agreement with my Landlord for the 2 bed flat I currently live in. The agreement end on the 4th of Aug.
We will within the next week or two be moving into a different property with the same landlord, we are meeting him tonight to sort out the tenancy agreement for the new property, what should I expect from him in regards to ending the current agreement early.
We have lived in our current property for 3 and a half years, we've signed new agreements every 6 or 12 months, with no charge. The landlord has been great, and whilst I don't expect him to I don't want him to be able to in the future claim that we didn't pay the final months rent etc on our current property. Will a signed letter suffice?
Thanks

There are several templates for surrender letters.
This one seems OK to me:

That certainly would do the job.
Additional comments:
* it's a Deed (hence the need for witnesses which is a hassle. Strictly speaking a Deed is the correct way to go, but courts would generally accept a letter (as opposed to Deed) provided the terms were equally clear and both parties had signed.
* Signing/agreeing the Deed above in advance removes the LL's ability to inspect the property after the agreed end date, to assess its condition, since as worded the Deed states that no deductions will be made. The LL may well be unwilling to do this until the actual move-out date.
An alternative would be a Deed (or letter) that did not mention the deposit (or stated it would be returned less any agreed deductions). This could then be signed (& witnessed) in advance so that both parties could plan for the tenancy end, with the deposit dealt with later.0
