Help!! Badger or fox in shed

We have a wooden shed/outbuilding attached to the side our house, which we access via the side outside door to the house. Basically a temporary type building which we use to accommodate a chest freezer, washing maching and other odds & sods. The floor is a timber raised deck and not a concrete floor.

Anyway 2-3 weeks ago when entering the outbuilding, I noticed what I can only be described as an animal type smell!

It seemed to go away after a few days but last night we heard very loud scratching noise coming from the back door below the shed/outbuilding floor. I can only assume the culprit has returned as the smell seemed to be back this morning also?

Now I know there is a fox in the area, as I have found fox poo on my drive and garden before, but I also know my neighbour has had a badger living in his shed also?
So I don’t actually know if it’s the badger from next door or a fox below my shed? Is there any clues at all that could tell me if it’s a badger or a fox?
There are no signs of any damage to our garden at all?

would it be worth calling the RSPCA?

Why not ask your postman if the badger next door has had his post redirected?

Forgive me, but I'm not entirely sure what your issue is; do you have something against wildlife that isn't causing you a problem?

I very much doubt the rspca would be interested unless you know the animal is suffering. Why does it matter whether it is the fox or badger? Personally I wouldn't want either in such close proximity. A good tidy up of the shed will probably discourage both. Make sure there is no food to attract them.

Are you certain about that? Badgers usually live underground in setts in family groups.

    Thanks,
There are no traces of food around.

the shed only has a washing machine and freezer in it. I'm surprised the washing machine spin hasn't put "so called animal" off? We have this on from 10pm in the evening and is quite noisy when spinning.

Try peeing on / around the shed, this can scare wildlife away.
(The smell, not the action of peeing! )
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
