in Credit cards
Hi, I know this is the credit card board, but I can't really see a more suitable board for this to go in?
I have recently opened a bank account with Nationwide and 9.9 times out of 10 when I try to use my card on line it goes through the verified by visa page and fails. It works fine if the site doesn't use vbv, but if it does then I am literally unable to use my card on that site.
i have phoned the bank and they said they are not declining tansactions and they can see nothing wrong with the account, that it must be an issue with verified by visa. I have phoned verified by visa and they claim it is the bank declining the transactions not them.....
Where do I go from here? Is it just a case of opening a new bank account and getting rid of Nationwide?
Any advice would be great as I really cannot understand who is at fault here.

I found that my anti virus software was conflicting with vbv so I had to turn some elements of it off. Does it fail on multiple devices?I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

The Budgeting and Bank Accounts Board generally deals with Debit Card matters.0

Yes. I have tried on my mobile, on my own broadband and on mobile network. I have tried on my laptop, my PC and a tablet too... It is very strange!Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

Nationwide has opted out of VbV, the transaction still goes to the page but does not require any customer entry and simply moves on the completed transaction page. I cannot recall a single instance where this has not worked. My suspicion would fall on an error within Nationwide, perhaps asking them to issue a replacement card (with a new number) might be your first step.0

My cards (various) often go to the VBV or MC equivalent and it just swirls around a bit and goes to the completed transaction page. I never have to input my password.0

It doesn't require any password; it just goes to the VBV page and does the swirling, but then I get a box saying transaction failed... every time. I think I have had 2 occasions where it actually authorised, but the rest just say transaction failed..
I might order a new card and see if that helps. I suppose I am just assuming it is the account as opposed to the card itself.
Thanks for input guys.. It has been driving me mad.Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

While a new card is the easiest thing to try you may well be right that it's the account where the fault lies. In which case you'll either need to persuade Nationwide to set up a new account for you or you could just switch to another bank (and maybe make some money while doing it).0
