Moving house, Moving Supplier

Hello,

You will have to excuse me I'm a little green to all this.

At the end of next month I am moving to a new rented property with my better half. I though I would use this opportunity to change suppliers and I know I am not currently on the best deal.

How do I go about this? Do I have to have the new properties old supplier until we are moved in then start looking to change or can I get the ball rolling now? Do I have phone our current suppliers and inform them of our move date.

You should call your current supplier and let them know. You will have to contact them again on the day you move out of the current property.

On the day you leave, phone your current energy supplier(s) , giving them that day's meter readings informing them that these are the closing readings. You will need to give them your new address so that the final bill can be sent there. Take a photograph of the meters clearly showing the meter reading and the meter's serial number.

As soon as you become legally responsible for the new property, then yes you do need to call the supplier(s) of the new property, setup an account and give them the opening meter readings. Again take a photograph of the meters clearly showing the meter reading and the meter's serial number. It is called a Deemed Contract and you cannot avoid it.
BUT when you call them, tell them you want to be given the cheapest tariff with no exit fees.

Once you have the account setup then you are free to look around the price comparison sites for a better deal.
