Stock Market Opportunities?

I am tempted by the reits and non London builders. British Land at current prices seems to offer a good 'rental dividend' of close to 6%. I dont see why their rents will fall as business are usually tied in for years if not decades. Looks a lot more tempting than sub 1% 10-year-gilts.
Any views in this mayhem? Be it builders Reits Banks or whatever else

i would avoid banks even at these levels. far too much risk. EU banking system has a serious risk of collapsing.
i would agree on Reits and non london builders. its interesting that defensives have gone up during the rout. i would look for any defensives that appear cheap.
i hope sterling settles down and even gives some sort of relief rally as i want to buy US stocks which are becoming more and more expensive as gbp falls.0 -
There's a City truism, don't try to catch a falling knife.
REITs will provide a great income as long as the tenants don't go bust.
Without looking too closely at things, M&S might be worth a shout.0 -
Probably Vodafone?0

I can't complain at all, since around 70% of my SIPP is invested in overseas funds, outside of Europe/EU, and is up around 5% in GBP terms over the past couple of trading days. The major gains have been in commodities (First State Global Resources), U.S. (various) & India funds (Fidelity & Jupiter). I have just topped up a little though on a UK FTSE 250 tracker, but I'm avoiding any increase in holdings in the overseas funds now due to GBP weakness, as mentioned by economic.
However, these are basically currency based gains, so I'm not particularly excited by them as it's the underlying factors which are more important to be aware of, of course. It does give an opportunity to top up though. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -

I don't want to invest in single company shares (too risky for me), but I'm currently resisting an urge to invest in the ftse 250, I'm interested because the way I see it is, we still have a reasonable chance of staying in the single market (but probably out of the EU), and if so, I think the current value of the ftse 250 looks like value.
But I didn't start this, so don't blame me, I voted remain, I don't want to add to mistakes already made by others.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I think the end game is that we will end up in EFTA and that two speed Europe will become the EU and EFTA. I think at some point the other non Eurozone countries will join too.
Invest? No thanks. I'd rather buy at the beginning of an upswing and to have risked a little bit of value from not buying at the bottom; than to buy in a falling market when we don't know how much further markets have to fall. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Perhaps airline stocks are oversold?
Possibly. It depends on what the EU decides to do about airlines though, aiui similar to Gen's concerns re passporting. There's a good article about it here:

Okay, bargains. Banks are probably oversold, especially those that don't have passporting issues which probably means the smaller players.
TBH the best opportunity this likely offers will be to buy into either the market as a whole or to buy into quality at a lower cost.0 -
Well, my two biggest individual name holdings (IMB, BATS) are both up nicely since the leave vote. I guess people smoke a lot in times of uncertainty0
