Hyundai ix35 question
Hi all,
I'm possibly looking to get a used Hyundai ix35 for around 9k.
I was just wondering what people's views were on the car and also should i go for petrol or diesel?
What should i comfortably expect a petrol engine to go to before it starts to cause me problems?
We currently have 1 baby and 1 dog so it would be a family car.
I look forward to your replies.
Darren

My 330Ci now has 127K reliable miles on.
My first Impreza had 197K on when I sold it.
My wife's first MX5 had 156K on when we sold that.
My sister's Kia Sportage has 110K on it.
My Dad's old Range Rover 4.6V8 had 140K+ on it when he changed it.0 -

Were these diesels or petrols?0 -

thanks... not sure which to go for.0 -
Petrol engine are more likely to give longer trouble free service than modern diesels due to the complexity of modern diesels.
If you go to the third world lots of cars are petrol.
Most of the Taxis in Ghana are petrol. And these are run a minimum of 12 hours a day if used by one driver, sometimes 24hours a day.
My old work had petrol V8 vehicles and I never heard of one needing a new engine, the Merc diesels that replaced them needed new engines at least once in their lifetime.0 -
How many miles will you cover per year and what sort of journeys and roads?0

Petrol/diesel depends more on your usage than total lifetime mileage. If you're doing low milage, short runs, petrol is better. If you do high mileage and longer runs, diesel is better.
Incidentally, it's a pretty heavy car, but it seems to shift well enough in the 136bhp diesel version. You might find it's not so good in petrol because of the torque but you'd need to try it to see.0 -
Have a good check underneath if its ex Hyundai uk, they have provided the officials course cars to rally wales for the WRC, i.e have travelled the same route as all competitors, some driven more carefully than others.

Check the service records as some of Hyundai's cars are only serviced every two years.
Also check the underbody as some Hyundai vehicles seem to rust very quickly.0
