Getting insurance with a criminal record.

Hey, i don't suppose anyone on here has or knows soemone with a criminal record. I first tried to get home insurance 3 years ago phoning about 10 places all of them saying they wouldn't insure me because i had an unspent conviction.
Does anyone know of anyone who has managed to obtain home insurance through a company, i hate leaving my house and can't go visit people for long because i'm paranoid about my house being broken into.
My flatmate also once phoned up for home insurance and was declined because she shared a flat with me.

I work in insurance and have placed business with a company called Culpeck Insurance Services before for people in your position. Just googled them and their website is somewhat out of date as it says they are regulated by the GISC (who we're relieved of their pointless regulation duties over 2 and a half years ago). Anyway, dunno if they're still going but they were based in Peterborough and had a scheme called "Fresh Start". Might be worth looking into.Out of Darkness Cometh Light, Out of Sandwell Cometh S***e...0

Stooby - found this website for Culpeck and this mentions FSA regulation. Agree with you about the GISC though

tugothy - link below takes you to the page you need.

Just be aware that if your conviction is in any way connected with fraud or dishonesty, cover is likely to be refused.0 -

Some useful info in the above links.
Couple of other firms. No idea of their quality (and website for first is very amateurish) but at least you can compare.

Try looking at sisa.co.uk (special insurance schemes agency), in their A-Z list under Household Insurance they have a link to an ex-offender scheme run by a broker called Richard Weston.0
