Cinder block hole size?

Odd question I know but can anyone tell me if cinder blocks are a standardised size, and more importantly what the dimensions of the holes in them are?

Am trying to create a garden bench using cinder blocks and wooden beams for the garden, but need to know what the max thickness of wood I can get to go through the blocks. Cheers!

I am not aware they are standard, and there is no technical reason I can think of. The holes exist to reduce the weight of the block, and obviously the bigger the holes the lighter the block becomes.

Be careful with your approach. Go to Travis and buy a block because your local branch may not be stocking those made by Cemex - who are on your attached data sheet. If you have no nearby Cemex factory the blocks in your area are likely to be sourced from who ever is nearby. Their holes could be different to what you expect!

Agreed on making the blocks lighter, also allows for the installation of rebar in retaining structures.

Call TP and ask them for the size and just be prepared to mill down to suit the whole.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!

Why are you calling them cinder blocks when they are actually dense concrete blocks, according to Travis Perkins.
If you want to know the size of the hole, just nip into a stockist and measure one.
I can afford anything that I want.

Let's not split hairs on product names.. I supplied the link so that anyone with helpful advice could see what I was referring to.

Also, damn.. why didnt I just think of going down there, before asking the 1000s of people with DIY knowledge/expertise on this site first, before making the trip on 2 buses to get to my nearest depot..? :T

I've always found it easier to get information/answers if you refer to the item by its correct name.
I was not splitting hairs, I was simply making a statement of fact.
