'Several years of work" not backed up anywhere on a routine basis. Oh dear.

I used a software system designed for pre-school systems, and all my work was on there, contracts, parents and childrens details ,medical forms, progress reports, planning, assessments etc, everything that Ofsted requires me to have in place.
However,as an EU immigrant I was quite offended when the company put up a EU Referendum poll and wrote
    1. Leave (of course!)
    2. Uncertain
    3. Remain
And then added that if you are uncertain, vote LEAVE !
I commented in a respectful way that posting this poll would make the company's EU citizen customers feel uncomfortable. The next thing I knew the owner of this business popped up on this thread and got very abusive. I decided to log in to my account to back up all my info before cancelling my subscription. But I couldn't as the owner had deleted my account,on the basis that I disagreed with his poll ! Several years of work and confidential information...gone !
I tried to email the company to no avail.
I have contacted the ICO as I have screenshots of everything, but isn't there other bodies that I can complain to that will take action against this company?
I have since found out that other customers has had their accounts deleted also for absolutely no reason. Very concerning.

Did the abuse include racial abuse?

Did you have a B2B contract with them? If you have any losses, then you could sue them? Check the T&Cs.

To be fair, theres a possibility that the OP could well be entitled to damages for breach of contract. Mutually agreed termination or termination upon notice is one thing - quite another to (imo) negligently do so which then causes a loss to the other party.

Back up is a non-issue in this case imo. Different if it was being stored on your own hardware. But this was stored on their servers and they purposely took that action, it wasn't outwith their control.

Exporting the data (OP suggests this was possible) certainly was in the OP's control. Therefore the post in post #2 was valid. I agree with what you're saying, but OP could have taken risk mitigation actions previously. (Unless taking backups would have opened up data control/protection issues and would have required the nomination of a Data Controller).

Edit: I see OP has thrown their toys out of the pram. :(

Personally I think the op should have given it longer to get comments that they may have found helpful, for example it seems to me that post number 6 is offering some hope to the op.

Put it this way, if a workman causes damage to your house either recklessly or on purpose, do you think that makes them any less negligent (or liable) if you don't have house insurance?

You have a duty to ensure you do not allow your losses to mount up. Until the damage occurs, you have incurred no losses. The "damage" in this case is the destruction of the data/service. The OP was not the cause of that damage.
