Where to live in/near Loughborough

We are soon to be relocating from Sheffield to Loughborough. My husband will be working near Wickes/Staples and I will be working near the college.

We would like to buy a house (3 or 4 bed) but aren't sure of areas. We are wanting advice on local areas. We would like local amenities and ideally a community. We both have cars so transport not an issue but a bus route would be nice. We don't have children but hope to in the future. Ease of access to the centre for the evening would be good.

Any advice?

The nicest places to live in the Loughborough area aren't actually in Loughborough IMO. Hathern is a nice little (but growing) village with a community spirit - a handful of pubs, school etc. The village is only 3 miles from Loughborough town centre and there is a direct bus route. It's also the right side of town for your husband's job - easily cycle or drive.
Not the best location if you want to go into town every night but very good for when you decide to start a family.
Another great thing about the location is that it is good for driving links to either M1 or M42.

A place to avoid (or at least it used to be!) Shelthorpe!
