I love having lights in the garden but experience means I know not all solar lights are the same!

I got some Maplins own lights that are great and last well into the night but they no longer are available. I bought some Cole and Bright ones which seem to be everywhere but they just don't last as long, barely an hour in winter on a south facing position.

I presume this is down to the quality of solar panel and battery.

Does anyone know of any good makes that last a long time?

We have some cheap Chinese lights off eBay in our garden, had them about 18 months. They don't last long during the winter but are on all night during the summer.

The down side to buying the Chinese lights off eBay is the time they take to arrive.

I have a 50 string fairy light set which cost me £10 and then a 100 string set which cost me £3.99! They're wrapped around my decking.

Both work through the night and have had no issues at all.

I then have 2 small solar 'tree' lights which cost £30 each - and they are rubbish, they flicker some days they don't turn on even though they get as much sun as the other ones. I would say they work 3 nights of the week, at most.

So my personal experience would lead me to say cheap is fine and better to replace. There was a no returns on my solar trees because they had been unpackaged. :(
