Brick colour aerosol paint to cover white plastic

Options
As I'd like to spray paint a white coloured plastic gas meter box a red brick colour to blend in more with the wall, I was wondering if anyone would be able to suggest a product for doing this?

I think I heard once that some paints do not always adhere well to plastic.

I used a standard outdoor gloss on mine, not a spray.

My outdoor meter boxes have been painted with ordinary gloss paint for the last 37 years. I think that they are on their second coat.
I was only thinking today, that they could do with repainting. Not because the paint has flaked, but because it has faded.
The colour used to be copper, but now it looks quite pink.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Ideally use a paint suitable for plastic, or a stabilising primer first - saw both in my local Wilko's at weekend, but they were spray cans
  • Sorry to dig this one up...but I'm looking to paint my meter box.

If you use standard gloss paint, do you have to use a primer?

    Thanks
  • I just painted with Johnstons gloss paint didn't use any primer, it had a couple of coats over the years.
  • painted them with gloss several times, and with wood stain once. Both work well.

If you want a spray for plastic how about Halfords for a bumper/trim spray canister? I have an outdoor storage box I was going to do this way (but never got around to it)
  • Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated!
