Insure and Go automatic renewal... Legal?

Hi all,

I looked at my Credit Card account and found that I have been debited about £66...
I called Insure and Go and after along process of identifying myself I finally got a refund for the last payment...

However, I am now starting a process to reclaim 5 years of automatic insurance... Yes, I know... I should have checked my statements... but I didn't.

Long story short: I understand that car, life and house insurance can e automatically renewed but... travel? I have also noticed the price is incredibly high but can the automatic renewal be stopped? It doesn't make any sense to have a travel insurance in a year you don't travel.

Is this legal?
Shouldn't the automatic renewal be clearer in the form?

Thanks for your opinions.

Yes auto renewal is legal if part of the contract terms and they have sent you documents at each renewal to confirm. I doubt they will refund anything apart from the last payment.

You do not have to accept auto renewal of any insurance. You simply ask them to switch off the auto renewal feature.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Annual travel, yes. Single trip travel, no.

Automatic renewal can easily be stopped. Usually just a phone call.

They did the same with us this year and never sent us a renewal pack! It was only because I wanted to add something to my policy and I wondered when it was due for renewal that I noticed it had done it itself.

They are all jumping on the auto renewal bandwagon, I even had this with car hire excess cover.
I realise auto renewal does suit some people but Auto renewal should be a opt in choice, not a default setting.
