Power Cut

Hi all
We had a power cut for several hours last night. The national grid is recording it as 7:06 to 10:46, but I think it may have been longer. It wasn't off for a continuous period either, it was off and on all afternoon/evening.
In the end we got takeaway for tea and this morning I am throwing away all meat and fish products from my fridge.
Am I entitled to compensation and how do I go about doing this?

Compensation is only payable for over 24hours.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Why are you throwing away all meat and fish products from your fridge?
Have you decided to turn vegetarian?

It's all the fault of those nasty Europeans, the French buy our power stations and now after the vote on Thursday they're starting to hold us to ransom.
The Russians have done it in the past to other Countries by turning off their oil pipes .......... So you never know.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I read on a food safety website that if the temperature falls below 40 F for more than 2 hours then meat is unsafe to eat. I had no idea about the temperature in my fridge and didn't want to take any risks.
I have read somewhere that if your power goes off 3 or 4 times within 12 months then you can claim compensation. I don't know how they measure this but it went on and off several times yesterday. Not sure whether this counts?Competition wins £14,136.30[\COLOR]0 -
If your fridge door was closed, the food will be absolutely fine, I think you're worrying unnecessarily.0

Unless you keep opening the door your fridge should be good for a lot longer than 3-4 hours temperature wise0 -
More worrying is that my fridge is set to 5c or 41F. Should I throw all my food away and buy a new fridge?0

Most fridges and freezers will keep food at a safe temperature for 18 to 24 hours, as long as the door is not opened. Once you do that, the time reduces rapidly.0
