Travel insurance question

Booked a holiday to portugal in march and took out the travel insurance in march as well. Last week I managed to injure my leg and got a pretty deep wound that needed stitches, it has unfortunately got a little bit of infection, I got antibiotics from the doctors on friday, however we fly out next sunday, should I tell the travel insurance about this incase i have any problem with it ? or is it not worth bothering ? thanks

Depends on how bad it is and whether a Doctor says there might be issues if you travelled.

If you phoned your Insurers, they will just ask you what your Doctor has told you. If you don't know there is not much of a conversation that could be had.

Before you travel, you need to find out from a Doctor whether it is ok or not and if it is what precautions you should take. You might not be able to go swimming or do anything which risks any infection getting worse.

If you travelled with a potentially serious issue without getting Doctors opinion you are fit to travel, then you risk a problem with medical cover under Travel Insurance. If you had an EHIC card it would not be as bad as you could use Portugese public healthcare instead. But EHIC does not cover private treatment and visitors are often taken to private hospitals, as hotels have deals with private to send their customers to them.

If a Doctor does confirm you are ok to Travel, you should inform the Insurers for their records so they know about it. If you are not fit to travel then the conversation will be about cancellation of the holiday.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
