Aqua direct debit date - concerned

  • In case anyone is wondering, this is not how it works for Barclaycard: once you set up the DD for the full statement balance, a payment will be taken regardless of you clearing the balance by debit card before the due date. This caused my CC to be in credit one time.

So just to make something clear, if I set up a direct debit to pay in full each month and have the funds in my bank account, I can totally relax and forget about it and there is nothing to worry about?

Yes you can, I don't have an aqua card but as above if you make manual payments it can upset things depending on the policy of your card provider.

Your problem seems to be a low limit, in which case you'll have to make interim payments, but if they are saying the debit won't come out then that should protect you.

It might be worth applying for a second card which would give additional limit and also act as a backup. A single application won't make much difference to your credit file whether you get accepted or declined, providers only ever see the application in any case.

This is obviously assuming you can manage the credit responsibly and pay by the due date, again by direct debit if preferred.

Yes, that's correct. The only exception would be when the DD is first set up, if the payment is due very soon after, it might not be ready in time.
However, on all future statements you should see words to the effect of "Your payment of £xx will be taken by DD on xx.xx.2016".

That used to be the case with Aqua but they changed it. Still applies with MBNA though. A good way to get a credit card in credit.
