Alternatives to gmail, outlook, yahoo etc?

I want an email address for our small family history club. At the moment I just use my normal gmail account but would rather keep it separate if poss. None of the above free email companies can provide a name near enough to the name of our club, without sticking silly numbers on the end.
Is there any other free email provider I can use? The other alternative I thought of is to get a domain name which would be handy just in case we ever want a website and wonders of wonders, the perfect one is available for £7 a year. However it seems I then have to pay more for email per month which I don't want to do.
Is there another way of doing this? I've googled a bit and come up with using aliases on my own gmail which doesn't look that good and a bit cumbersome, also using google apps but that seems geared to business with lots of addons that I don't want.
I'm sure there is a simple answer somewhere - any thoughts please?

The simple answer is to spend a little more time reading through the first few Google hits for the search "free email providers UK"...
More than enough info there for a decision.0 -
Thank you. I had already found this information but the main ones at the top of the lists couldn't provide the name I wanted and I don't want something that sounds silly - Yahoo is bad enough! GMX comes nearest so may have to go with that.
Thanks again.0 -
GWX is probably a good choice - but watch for the limitations..0

Get your own domain name and then pair it with free hosting. e.g. 000webhost.com - 5 free email accounts per domain. Not sure what they use as a webmail client, though.
Breaking news: they have a choice of RoundCube, AtMail and SquirrelMail.0 -
If you want a memorable email address, why not register a domain (~£7 a year for a .co.uk), and then link it to a free email account (like GMX or whoever).0

An obvious one, if a bit old would be mail.com. When you open their free account you can pick from a range of choices for names.
Impressive range of domains.

I opened a Zoho email a few weeks ago & have been really pleased with them.0

Is the Fabian Society named after a Mr. Fabian?
Why don't you give us the names you would like, maybe somebody can come up with a good substitute. I got a gmail address a couple of years ago, which took a little imagination, and it's not my own name, but no numbers needed.
Even a lesser know e-mail provider soon get clogged up with used names.0
