When do I have the survey?

Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid, but it's been 11 years since my last move and I can't remember, but when do I arrange for a survey? Would it be after I've had the mortgage accepted? I'm currently awaiting a decision. I know they do a valuation survey but as it's an older house, I want to make sure there are no hidden horrors.

Thanks

Do the survey after the mortgage has been approved. If the mortgage isn't approved then you may waste money on a survey if you cant get a mortgage.

either take a gamble and pay the lender's surveyor to do both the valuation for them and a more detailed survey for you

    or

wait until the mortgage valuation is done and then send in your own independent surveyor once you know the mortgage remains on track
