Student looking to improve Credit Score.

Hi all,

My first post around here but have used these forums many time to look up information, but this time I think I need some personalised info.

I have had a terrible credit rating for years, but over the past year have been trying to fix it. I have put myself on the Electroll Roll nad finally got myself a credit card (Vanquis). I am giving this my brother to use, as he is sensible and will use it for me.

I got refused many bank accounts last year, even standard current accounts and I don't have a student account even though I am in my second year at Uni.

I was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to improve my rating enough to apply for my student account. I only have one default on my credit rating.

Company name: HUTCHISON 3G UK LTD
Account type: Communications
Started: 24/09/2004
Default Balance: £254
Current Balance: Satisfied
Defaulted On: 14/06/2005
File updated for period to: 26/08/2006
Status History:
(brackets indicate most recent status) [8]

Any help on this would be great as I could really do with my Student overdraft by christmas.

The default is for a mobile phone contract I'd guess

  • Try contacting the company involved. They can (if they want to) remove it from your record - from what I can work out, the default stays, but the status history is changed. I'm trying to get Orange to remove a similar default on my record, if I can ever get through to them! Will let you know if I'm successful :)
