used car dealer prices

It used to be £2999 for the same reason as 99p stores .Perception that £2999 is not three grand .0

As above, it's all about perception. £2990 sounds much less than £3K, even though there's only £10 in it. Customers have an idea what they want to spend and would see breaking into the next grand up as a hurdle.0

The real reason is that for a common vehicle with hundreds of listings over many pages, just a few pounds off brings it forward in the search results when going low to high.
Some online prices allow absolutely no negotiation room at all, and may even have admin fee add ons.0 -

But then cars at £2500 would be before £2990 anyway?0 -
Hello All
I've put my car up for sale at £3000. At the same time I noticed that all dealers seem to price their cars at for example £2990.
Was wondering why do they do this and not just round of the figures.
If your car is £3000 and theirs are £2990 I'd buy from the dealer all day. Warranty, reputation etc etc...'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
