Who misses their old house?

We'd lived in our old house for nearly 15 years and until we saw this house up for sale we had no intentions of moving. After living there for so long and making so many memories there, I thought I'd miss the place and think of it often, but I don't! I love our new house so much I've not really thought much about the old place. I do think packing early helped me to detach myself from there though. Just wondered if others had the same feeling or a different experience?

We certainly don't miss our old home.

We have many memories, were there 7 years and had 2 children there. However we are now in a house almost twice the size with a garden 4 times the size and this is our forever house. No, I do not miss our old place.

I wouldn't think many folk would miss their old house as most move on to bigger and better things.

We miss ours a lot, but we're not yet settled and living in rented. I wish we could go back to the village though.

I was amazed that despite renovating my old house, and having then lived in it for 14 years, I walked past it a day after completion (I now live around the corner) and felt nothing!

That's exactly like us! We did everything to that house and turned it from a wreck into a home. We now live down the road but strangely this house feels more homely than the old house!
  • I think it depends.
When I moved into this house I used to wake up in the middle of the night and not be sure where I was!!!

My last house was soooo unlucky. My world fell apart several times over and I couldn't wait to get out the door. I was barely even living there at the end. I look back fondly on some properties I've owned, but that's it. I don't think I've cried leaving them. Once you've packed up and it's empty, I find I totally detach myself from it. It'll be hard leaving here as I'm very fond of this house. Maybe next year though... :/

I have a recurring dream about my old house, I come home from work, put a load of washing on, sit down in front of the tv with my dinner... then it suddenly dawns on me that it's not my house anymore and I start running around panicking trying to get my stuff out of the washing machine and clear away my dishes before the new owner comes home!

Based on that I think it's fair to say I miss it!

I must be the odd one out, as I'd have my previous house back in a heartbeat, and been here 25 years!

I must add, just the building!

We moved for schools, garden, parking and area etc and have never regretted it. This house is home and I feel very happy and comfortable in it (1930s build).

Our previous house was a mid terrace Victorian one, with 3 enormous high ceilinged receptions, kitchen and loo downstairs and 3 double bedrooms and bath upstairs. It was enormous and we had so much space. If I say most of the houses on that road are now split into 2 decent sized 2 bedroom flats you get the idea.

I do miss that house, but the facilities we have here outweigh the building we left.

    Such is life.

I miss my last house and the one three houses back the most.

The last one I just loved the village and the house. Moved about 50 miles East, and now hubby is working six miles from the old house Grr!

I love current house too, and life has certainly been easier in the current one, than the six years at the prev one.

I would buy it back tomorrow. Problem is I price downsized and couldnt afford to now!

I miss my old house, but not the neighbours. I was there 16 years and did a lot of work to it. Got some very nice comments from viewers when I came to sell.
Been here 18 mths now and I don't think I will ever settle into it. It's too big, too much to keep on top of and live next door to friendly enough people, but they are noisy and seem to bawl and shout at each other all the time. I want my old house back but in peace and quiet!
If you will the end, you must will the means.
