Anyone used Trustmark?

Has anyone used Trustmark when employing trades? If so, what was the experience like?

Trustmark should be OK, one reason being cowboys will not go to the trouble of being involved. This is because they do not need to - there are countless gullible consumers out there. This means any contractor taking the time to be a member has a marketing advantage, and will be deemed a cut above the cowboys.

However, remember there are countless good trades who are not members - they simply do not need to be, nor need the hassle of being involved.

Equally, do not expect Trustmark trades to be the lowest priced.

For years after the scheme was introduced it was shunned by the construction industry as an unnecessary expense and hassle. I do not know what the current take up rates are - good people I knew of never got involved.

My post was slightly tongue in cheek as I got it free this year through Gas Safe, I doubt I'll carry it on if I have to pay

TrustMark is always done through other bodies, e.g. the NICEIC as an add-on. (I believe ECA add it free of charge, which is why so many ECA contractors are TrustMark.) Of course almost nobody takes it up.

I wouldn't think it is a factor at all in selecting someone. If they are in the NICEIC then they meet all the criteria anyway for the TrustMark scheme without having a TrustMark badge additionally paid for.
