Am I asking for too much?
I'm looking for properties within the Newcastle/ Gateshead area. I don't drive so decent transport links would be great. I'm looking for a 3 bed or large 2 bed with a maximum price of £130,000 but don't know if properties in such an area exists. I'm seeing houses in that price range but not sure if the area is somewhere I would want my children growing up in.
Anyone familiar with Newcastle/ Gateshead has any recommendations?

Benton/Longbenton will get you on the Yellow metro line for around that kind of money. Plenty of choice around the Longbenton estate between the newer build houses or the ex council ones.
I've been up here 10 years, mainly in the east end with the exception of a 2 year rented stay in a Tyneside flat in Gosforth but that'll be out of your budget if you're buying.
The areas north of the river with the best metro links (Sandyford/Jesmond, Gosforth) will be out of that budget. Once you're beyond S. Gosforth, the metro is only half as regular, but depending on the estate agent's definition of Gosforth, there are parts of NE3 such as Wansbeck Road that may be within budget and on the green line).
If you stay on the yellow line, as above Longbenton and Four Lane Ends should be a good mix.
I was advised to avoid the stations on the riverside yellow loop (Byker, Wallsend, Walkergate, Meadowell etc.). Bits are OK but quite a few rough parts depending on your outlook.
If you can cope with the idea of not having an upstairs (or downstairs depending on which one of the pair you get), some of the Tyneside flats are enormous.0 -
Whickham in Gateshead is probably too expensive but Lobley Hill is nearby and a bit cheaper. I think it's reasonably well served by buses. Possibly also parts of Low Fell in Gateshead - plenty of buses run through there and it's only a few minutes from Gateshead town centre.0
