How much can I earn while my mother's on housing benefits?

For those of you who doesn't like a long read, skip a paragraph below, I'm just getting this off my chest. The question is below it.

Long story short, I'm suddenly thrown into a financial difficulties since the DWP cutted off my ESA after the assessment. Apparently, having disabilities with depressions and rock-bottom motivation isn't good for the claim. So with haste, I've decided to look for work so I can feed myself, and still make some contributions in my flat with my mother. However, because I live in this "Universal Credit Area", tried making a claim but denied since I get DLA. I tried applying for JSA online and on phone but again, denied. So with tooth and nail, I'm gonna have to find a part time job without any financial support from the DWP. Times like these makes me feel thankful to have a parent.

So onto the question, how much can I earn while my mother has housing benefits? Or at the very least, how much is the "safe" amount to earn without affecting our housing benefits? (Age 23 btw)

Thanks all, James.

    Have a look at:

Non-dependant deductions on the Shelter website
    http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice

Shelter EnglandGet adviceHousing benefitApplying for housing benefitNon-dependant deductions

Can't get the exact page link to work - sorry; but I am sure you will find it.

    "Housing benefit reductions for non-dependants
Housing benefit reductions depend on the income of your non-dependant.

Weekly income before tax Amount deducted each week
    Less than £133 £14.65
    From £133 and less than £195 £33.65
    From £195 and less than £253 £46.80
    From £253 and less than £338 £75.60
    From £338 and less than £420 £86.10
    From £420 £94.50"

Sorry - Can't format the table correctly, but I'm sure you will make sense of it!

Are you too late to appeal the ESa decision?

    Why couldn't you claim JSa?
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

How old are your parents? If they are 65 or over there is no non dep deduction or no increase in non dep deductions for 26 weeks where the non dep has a change of circumstances.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

    Is the DLA not support?

More info on your mothers circumstances are needed to offer best advice. I.E. age, does she get DLA/AA etc.

I wish I could, but appealing to ESA would mean another assessment. Overall, I think the rules has changed and gotten tougher, which puts me below the bar of those who are entitled. I'd claim JSA but I kept being redirected to Universal Credit by the DWP and the website itself (when I try to apply online.) Thanks for the link, I'll look into that.

    She's nearly 50, bless her.

I can't get Universal Credit because I claim DLA. My mother isn't capable to work, she claiming ESA and DLA, as well as housing benefits. 49 and we both live in the two bedroom flat. She handles the rent btw.
  • If she receives dla care then there are no non dependant deductions
