Hi
I am looking to travel from washington to new york midweek in july.
Cant work out what they mean by "no checked baggage".
Can i get on with one suitcase measuring 20x 11. X 30 inches.?
Also anyone know of a discount code?

I think it means you carry your bags on and off at each end of the journey. There's no checking in as at an airport.
I can't imagine the size of the case would be a problem provided you can carry it and it fits through the train door.
Lots of useful rail info here

I would think that too.
A lot of their trains do have checked baggage but we wouldn't do it again as it took so long for them to unload our cases.travelover0 -
I completed that journey last week, and had the same confusion over "no checked baggage" but as far as I could see it meant nothing, I got on the train with my luggage stored it under the seat and did not have a problem at all, no one said anything and there were lots of people taking on luggage. I think my case was roughly the same size as yours.

As others have said don't worry about it, it means you take your own luggage. We did the journey in reverse this week last year!
I can highly recommend a Red Cap porter if they have them in Washington. It was a great tip on a forum to tell us about them in new York, Penn station is huge, with a red cap they take you down to the train early,.and get you on, they take the luggage on amazingly stacked trolleys! Its,free but the done thing is a tip of around $10.
The train can get quite busy, so those extra 5 mins you get before they announce the platform to everyone else means you can get all settled before the rush.0 -
When you arrive at the station head for the platforms near McDonalds - I was told that the train for Washington generally leaves from that end Platform I/J, which was a very useful tip as it does get busy so I was able to be near the front of the queue.0
