A lot depends on whether you are on coach as exclusive group ie inclusive tour or Eurolines where all individuals who need to go through immigration process. This van take hours!

Why not contact the ferry company and ask.

We are on an inclusive tour to Lake Garda and the tour company have advised that they will do their utmost to reduce delays, here's hoping.

I think this is to soothe passengers. They can't have any control of how thorough the checks are going to be or whether a particular individual will be questioned for longer.

We went via the Tunnel the weekend before the Euros started and there were no delays at all. As a coach trip, we just had a slot for us all to get on and off at passport control and that was it.

It appears that the checks are being carried out by the French Police based in Dover and are 100%, evidently this is to prevent banned football fans from crossing to Calais. Checking on the tunnel this also appears to be the case. Thanks for advice.
