Are lawnmowers cheaper in Autumn/Winter?
Options
I'm having to do the garden with just a strimmer at the minute, and have been reading up about lawnmowers. I want to buy a Flymo turbo microlite but they're very expensive, around £75. I was thinking that out of season, they might be cheaper, but sometimes it doesn't seem to work out that way.
Does anyone know if these generally are reduced significantly later in the year? I don't want to keep struggling with the strimmer if they only go down by a tiny amount.

That specific model, I don't know, but all the sheds and some of the on-line retailers sell off lawnmowers, starting late summer. I have picked up a very nice Honda-powered petrol self-propelled (was selling for £299) for £149, plus they threw in a spare blade, and a cheap Champion petrol (was £229) for £129. BUT.... these are petrol, larger, not so easy to store, and I wasn't after a particular model.
I'd imagine an electric all-in-a-neat-box might just get shoved on a shelf over winter.... while an end-of-line simailar model might get reduced.
But, yes, reduced, from about September. By Christmas all the space is needed for gaudy decorations.0 -
I'm really sorry, but for a decent lawnmower, £75 would be bite your hand off. However, by going for a branded, specific model, you are partially paying for the name 'flymo' and the orange plastic!
I've seen mowers in DIY sheds for around £50. Wouldn't help us much with the amount of lawn we have though, wouldn't cope0 -
DIY stores often have sales over Bank Holidays - the next one of course at the end of August, so agree with Dafty Duck.0

I'll try to wait until the next sale and keep an eye on the prices. It's tiring having to do the garden with this little strimmer but although £75 might be cheap for a lawnmower, it's a lot of money for me.
I don't mind what brand it is. I know nothing about lawnmowers so I read a bit online and it seems a hover mower would be best since my garden has a slope.0 -
You can check on pricespy for 3 year retail price history.
Someone sell used on ebay for £10, worth consider if they are close to you.0 -

It also depends on how careful you are with things. I am careful and rarely break things. I had a cheap own brand holder mower without issue for years, but within a month of acquiring a lawnmower lodger the starter button went funny and the plastic thing that you press to make it go fell off. I bought a flymo, again had no problems for 5 years, until my sister mowed my lawn one day. Lo and behold, my flymo now has a dodgy start button. I imagine they didn't press it in the middle like I do. I have decided that nobody else will be using my next mower!
I guess this is not restricted to mowers. My OH regularly breaks toasters, window handles etc by being too forceful.0
