What do we check?

With a Halfords' car health check we look at 6 things:

. Air conditioning

Does this sound too good to be true? Or is it a case of they are only 'checking' what needs doing 'for free,' and anything that needs actually doing will incur a fee? (Although it does say they top up your screen-wash for free!)

Anyone familiar with this? Anyone used the service? What was the outcome?

Yes!!! its for free!!!

For FREE they will walk around your car drumming up trade for themselves!!

ALL FREE!!!

So yes, i can predict the outcome. They will find at least ONE thing to charge you for, probably several

"Your battery wont last another winter, we would recommend fitting a new battery now which we can sell you"
"Your headlight bulbs are looking a little dim, we can sell you upgraded bulbs and charge you for fitting them"
"Your windscreen wipers are starting to perish. We can sell you new ones and charge you for fitting them for you"
"Your oil level is a little below the top level, we can sell you a top up of oil"
"Your screen wash level is low, so we can top that up with FREE water for your but we think for your own safety we can sell you 5 litres of screen wash"
"Your air conditioning isnt as cool as it could be, we can regas that for you for £50".

We couldnt possibly let you leave today without getting that work done as your car is unsafe to drive.....

like lambs to the slaughter.

Actually I have had something similar (on a less extreme scale) happen when I went to Kwik Fit once! (About 5 years ago!) :eek:

If you assume the battery is ok if the car starts the rest are very simple checks you can and should regularly do yourself in less time than it takes to drive to Halfords and watch someone else do them.

If you regularly check the fluids and tyres yourself you will rarely be caught out by a breakdown and can potentially save a fortune.

I enquired about one of these last year and the screen wash top up was free but you had to buy the screen wash...

I think that sums up how useful this check will actually be!
