Hi I need some advice please- I had a loan back in 2002 with the Alliance and leicester. I have no statements or documents but sent a claim form in to santander anyway. I received a letter back to say they didn't have any records of my existance and that on that basis, if I couldn't provide details the case was closed.

on receipt of this letter today I rang the helpline number given I spoke to a lady who said they had done their checks and there was no phone calls or anything about me on their records. I asked if i sent in a sars request and paid the £15 if they would investigate further she told me not to waste my money as the sars dept have gone back as far as they could. I suggested that i had paid by direct debit and if I could get these details from my bank maybe I could provide those details? I range my bank(not santander) who told me their records only go back 6 years. Where do I go from here??? I'm unsure if I may have been miss sold ppi as it was taken out around 2002 Do I just give up??

I'm sure I was miss sold ppi but can't be sure.

Read that back to yourself, how is it that you're sure but can't be sure?
    Do I just give up??

If you don't know whether you had PPI or not and don't have any records, and the Bank don't have any record, then its game over unfortunately.

Most financial institutions only keep records for 6 or 7 years and you are asking about something from 14 years ago so they very unlikely to have any information.

To be sure, you send a SAR and £10, it's the only step left to you.
