Car Warranty Urgent Advice Needed Please

Hello,
I'm writing this post on behalf of my brother who has had a lot of hassle with MOT Angels. A few months ago he bought a car through an independent garage and took out a warranty with that garage that was with MOT Angels. Two months ago his car broke down so he phoned MOT angels and reported it had gone wrong and they told him he had to have it towed to a local garage who they are affiliated with. He had to pay the AA for it to be towed here. They messed him about for three weeks before admitting they could not do the work or even diagnose the problem with the car. Throughout this time he was in contact with both the garage and MOT Angels. One this was admitted he had to pay the AA again to tow his car to another garage who would be able to diagnose the problem. Five weeks passed with both the garage and MOT angels constantly making excuses and messing him around, causing a huge amount of stress. Last week they told him he had to pay over £300 for the diagnosis to be carried out - a month after the garage first recieved his car- and has just been told that the problem with his car cannot be repaired under the warranty and is going to cost him over £2000.
The problem is that this has taken TWO MONTHS for them to tell him and over £500 paid already just to find out that they can't do anything. It has caused him so much stress and worry and he's had to borrow a van from where he works which has put pressure on him from his employers too. He's at his wits end and doesn't know what to do. I'm just wondering if anyone can give us an insight into what his rights are with this and if he's eligible for compensation for how much they have messed him around. I've advised him to go to a solicitors and see if they can do anything for him.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you for reading.

If he's getting legal advice from a solicitor he should follow that rather than any contradictory advice you get here.
(Though the first step is for him to make a formal complaint to MOT angels in line with their complaints procedure and await their reply then take it from there)0 -
Thank you for your reply. He's not able to get to a solicitors until the end of next week so we're just wondering what they might advise. A formal complaint has been filed too.0

In that case await their response.
If you aren't happy (or they ignore you for 8 weeks) then you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication (assuming this is actually a warranty direct ltd product).
This will be at no cost to your brother, and even if the FOS rule in favour of the insurer their decision is only binding on the company - meaning he could then start legal action against them and would only then start incurring costs0
