Hi
We have decided to start the journey of selling our current house and purchasing a new property, however I expect things have changed since we last purchased a property many years ago!!!
We need to be pro-active in looking for new properties, I have set alerts on Rightmove, however is there anything else that we could be doing ?
Thanks

As a first timer buyer that's pretty much all we did - Rightmove alerts! The house we're in the process of buying went up on a Saturday, we got the alert immediately, viewed on Tuesday, offer accepted Wednesday so the alerts are good

Just the usual boring stuff - declutter, keep your house presentable for viewings (ask a friend/relative for an honest opinion if you can bear hearing it!), check Zoopla too (although I'm yet to find one on there that's not on RM), get all the house paperwork in order as you'll need some of it, and maybe, once you have a buyer, get to know the EAs as they will consider you first, possibly before anything even reaches RM.
I've also seen several posts on local FB groups saying what they're looking for in the hope someone's thinking about selling and they can cut out the EA.
If you have a buyer and still can't find anywhere, consider a leaflet drop. Has worked for a few on here.
Good luck.

Hi
Ours is due to go on the market next week.
Is it not worth phoning the estate agents and registering our detail s as and when new properties come on their books?
The estate agent who came round to value our property suggested we sell our house first then look to purchase a property, would you agree?
Thank you for you replies.0 -

You need to make this statement plural. Get a couple of agents in at least.0 -
When I was looking ( mid last year ) I found that the right move alerts normally came through about 1 day later. I found that by logging on twice a day I got a heads up first. Friday also seems to be a good day as not sure if it is a local thing or not but the estate agents all seem to do the valuations etc during the week then rush to get the proprieties on for the weekend.
I also registered with all of the local estate agents. Told them what we where looking for and called them once a week. Ok perhaps a bit excessive but hey we ( eventually after the move from hell ) got the house we wanted?
Ref sell house 1st. MMMM dont know? the last two times I have found the house I wanted to buy 1st. The last time we where not sure if we wanted to sell and toyed with the ides of keeping it to rent out. It would of meant a lot more dept but???
My worry was always that we would sell our house and then not find a house we wanted. I suppose it depends on the area but I think as long as you are open about your situation i.e you have or have not sold your house I don't think that there is a problem.
P.s Good Luck.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
Nothing wrong with looking, but you won't be in a position to offer until you're proceedable. If you can view and not get emotionally attached to one you love, fine. If you're someone who'll sell their granny in order to get a house you've 'fallen in love with' before selling your own, don't

I am constantly looking lol. Have had alerts set on RM for years! I don't view though unless I'm actually looking to move. My current house should sell very quickly so I always keep my ear to the ground...

Don't start looking seriously for an onward purchase until you've got serious interest in yours.starburst12 wrote: »Hi

If you're looking to buy in a fast moving market and find somewhere you like, you won't be taken seriously until you're in a proceedable position, SSTC.I am a mortgage broker.
