Help Needed Saving Loggerhead Turtles

Many of you will have heard of the island of Zakynthos (zante) in Greece, for the last god knows how many years its got press as a trashy party island, which in places it is.
But one of the main reasons why this island got so big on tourism in the first place was because of the Loggerhead Turtles.
These creatures are amazing and have been around for 250 million years, but they are under great threat.
So far this year 10 have been been found dead on the beaches around the island and 2 have been found with fishing hooks stuck in there throats, 1 of which had to be put to sleep.
On Zakynthos there is a centre called 'Earth Sea and Sky' and its aim is to protect the enviroment on the island. At present they are trying to raise money to be able to build a Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, because when an injured turtle is found, she is flown the Rescue Hospital in Glyfada, Athens, a flight of more than 1 hour. However, flights are not always available and sometimes the wait can be several days, particularly in peak season. This wait can be the difference between life and death. Immediate treatment is essential for the turtle to survive.

they have some help from the Sea life centres over here in the uk, the turtles that are in the Sea life centre in scarborough came from Zakynthos under the care of Earth sea & sky.
