Why on earth would the tenants (even students) not have insisted on a copy of the TA at the time it was signed? You can now see what not having one leaves them open to.
I'd still ask the LL for a copy now, there's no need to tell him the specific reason why it's being requested.0 -

I agree. Life's a learning experience.
The tenancy is ending so the LL is not likely to rush around digging out an old agreement, also this is the busiest week of the year for student letting agents, so getting hold of them is going to be tricky.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. They do have a legal right to a copy of the agreement.
The EA will certainly have it on file and easily accessible, since it would be needed if any money had to be collected, and so forth.0
