Hi

I previously had a spotless credit file except from a default from Wonga from 2014 which I emailed them asking to be removed a couple of weeks ago, siting mishaps on their behalf (and posted about on the debtfreewannabe forum). Unfortunately I can't link the thread, however their response was that they weren't going to do it. I logged into my credit expert credit file yesterday and the default was still listed, however I logged in today and my score has risen massively and the reason stated is a default is no longer on my file.

I am wondering if this is because I updated all of my records (credit file, bank, electoral roll etc.) this week, is it possible this has something to do with it? Is there anyway for me to double check if this default has actually been removed?

Thanks

Edit: I should add that the address was updated a few days ago successfully on creditexpert, as my score lowered due to no longer being registered on the electoral roll (waiting for them to process my address change).

Anyone doing a credit search would also check any linked/previous addresses, where i work we check addresses for the past 2 years for defaults etc. The default may still show on your previous address.
  • Is there a way to check this? I want to find out if it has actually been removed or if it is just something to do with the address update.

You need to check with Creditexpert, however if Wonga have refused to remove the default, it won't have been removed. We quite often see no defaults on credit files but on checking a previous address, it shows there. Systems are designed to check this.

Your score means nothing, ignore it.
  • Thanks meer53, that's very helpful.

Do you search only linked addresses as stated on the credit file and/or given by the applicant or are there other linked addresses that are searched that the applicant can't see?

    Hi Nearlydebtfree123.

I see that you are wondering why the Wonga account has been removed from your Experian report. It's come off your report as Wonga are no longer supplying account information to us, as a result we've removed it.
If you have recently registered on the electoral roll at your new address then this will be automatically updated on your report when the next rolling register is published by your local authority. It can take 6-8 weeks from registering to appearing on your report depending on when the next register is published.
    Kind regards
    Neil
