Backdated no claims...

After some help / advice:
Background to actual question first-

In May last year my car was damaged by a contractor operating a mini digger - it happened in a hotel carpark while we had gone out. The incident was witnessed by staff from the hotel, and the contractors were still there when we returned later in the day and told us what had happened.

The hotel manager obtained details of the contractors liability insurance and contact details for the owner of the business

The contractors owner was initially approached to see if he would pay cash for repair as his employees on site thought he would, rather than his insurer pay out. I got a couple of quotes for the work and let him know the amounts. ( one was £750, the other £950 - neither included courtesy car and both said 2 or 3 days for work )
He wasn't happy with either quote and said he could have it done in 2 days by a friend costing about £200 ( he had only seen photos of damage )
His general attitude was very brash, and had the manner of someone who was used to getting his own way. He wouldn't give me any details of his 'friend' who could do the work, and I told him I wasn't happy about that, and told him I would want the work done by someone of my choosing.
He never answered my phonecalls after telling him this, so I thought tough luck, you had your chance.
I contacted my insurer and put a claim into action. I gave contact details for the witness at the hotel (staff) and the details about the contractors and their insurers.
My car was sorted, and I had use of a courtesy car while it was being repaired. The total bill to insurer was £1300 plus the £100 excess I had to pay. My insurance was due to be renewed with a couple of weeks, so for convenience I stayed with the same insurer.

In November I had contact from my insurer to say that they had still not had settlement of the claim from the other party insurers, but not to worry.

Fast forward to now - My insurance is due next month so I thought I would give them a call to find out if the claim had been settled.

Apparently not! Although the claims department had put solicitors onto the case.
I was told that at renewal I am entitled to 9yrs NCB ( assuming no claim between now and then ), but this would be increased to 10yrs once claim settled, and any subsequent premium reduced accordingly.

My question: If I obtain quotes from other insurers, I will still have to mention this ongoing claim, but if it is then settled and NCB backdated, will any new insurer be obliged to alter premium based on the backdated information?

Thanks for bearing with me

You won't find much difference (if any) in quotes with 9 or 10 years Ncd.

Do dummy quotes online with 9 or 10 and see if it's worth worrying about

You will have to tell new insurers you approach that your claim has not been concluded.

I realise that the NCB won't make alot of difference.
    What about the outstanding claim?
What sort of difference to a premium could that make, as opposed to a claim that had been closed and confirmed as no fault?

Do the same exercise (dummy quotes) to find out

If you can get your chosen company to agree to amend the premium and refund you the difference if the claim is concluded as non fault then get them to confirm this back to you in writing before you buy.
