DFS & SCS Sofa Cover Protection - Is it worth it?

Hi MSE, Simply as the title states. We are due to purchase a new sofa and seen a few options we like in both stores. We always get the keen salesmen trying to sell these cover plans for us but the price seems quite harsh.

We are a couple, no pets or children and have never really ruined a sofa in the past.

Is it worth protecting an expensive sofa or just taking the risk.

You need three insurances in your life: Motor Insurance because it is mandatory, home insurance as it protects your major asset and life insurance as it provides for family in the event of you dying. All other insurances are sold for the benefit of one party - and that is the person selling it to you.

Accidental damage cover is available on any contents insurance policy.

Avoid the out of town sheds, find an independent furniture retailer.

Alternatively, 'taking out' the insurance may encourage the salesman to offer a better price on the sofa, and you can cancel the insurance when you get home.

We bought our sofas with insurance from dfs. The leather started peeling the first month. They came and patched it up. It started peeling all over within the year. They said they did the first repair out of good will and they wont repair again free of charge. I asked them what was the insurance for then that I paid when I bought the sofas. She said insurance is not included wear and tear. I called watchdog bbc. They called me and wanted me go on tv. I didnt want to show myself on national tv lol.
