Laptop will not start

My HP laptop running Win 8 will not start.
I earlier did a system restore back to 16th June and it re-started but wouldn't close down so I crashed it now it won't start.
Can anyone please suggest how I can re-start it?

An update: I just tried again to re-start and now it has so seems to be ok.
I forgot to say when it wouldn't start and I had a blue screen an option was to check the disk for errors which came back after a long time with can not fix errors even though it was attempting.
Can anyone suggest what went wrong?0 -
Maybe your hard drive is on it's way out. I would back up all data asap.0
