Replacement combi boiler

Boiler is 20+ years old. Not beyond repair, but needing repair increasingly often. New pump last year. Paid £60 for temp repair 3 months ago, now failed again and needs new diverter valve. My plumber says "it is possible to repair but it's a fiddly job and my experience of these boilers is that it could take a lot of work to get everything to seal up properly again".
He said "estimate about £2,500 to install a new Worcester Bosch".
This was a top of the head figure so I now need to clarify which model, and check that this includes everything - filter, flushing out system, controls.
It is a combi boiler for a 2-bed house.
Quote seems a bit on the expensive side? (Seen figures more like £2000)
He is a one-man firm, with a good local reputation and plenty of work.
I am in Reading, so prices may be higher here.
Any thoughts please?

On the British Gas web site you can get a quick quote to fit a new boiler. I'm sure when I looked the price was nearly twice what you have been quoted, but I can't fault their service.0

Just tried that, thanks.
It quotes 2 700 to 2 900, and would presumably be at the lower end as it assumes a 3-bed semi.
As BG have a reputation for overcharging, perhaps this does make my quote a little high.0 -

Get a couple of quotes but make sure you compare like for like, get what is covered agreed.
just for example if your usual plumber said, change the location and put it in the bathroom to give you more space then he'll also be quoting for the cost of moving. He might also be adding in thermostats etc. if you're talking about an old non combi boiler changing to a new combi boiler
The BG online quote might be just strictly 'replace boiler' and not include flushing out etc.
My quote from my very trusted plumber came in at nearly 4k to convert from a standard to a combi boiler and all associated works. The boiler would have been a Vaillant with a 10 year guarantee. Small 3 bed semi.0 -
I've just had a similar job done but switched from a conventional to combi. Job included replacing my old boiler, removing hot water tank and disconnecting cold tanks in attic. Upgrading some of the gas pipe under 2 bedroom floors from 15mm to 22mm, new wireless controls/thermostat, flush etc. It came to just under £1800, 2 day job. Boiler is a Baxi Main Eco Elite 30. Independent in North West.0
